Dress Making Design

So last spring I took a personal pattern course which means I can take a person's measurements and draft up a pattern to fit their unique body shapes. This is such a wonderful skill to have! Drafting pattern pieces by measurements also cuts down on fabric use and time as it is not necessary to do multiple fitting sessions. When I went to Kuwait a few years ago I enjoyed shopping at the local fabric malls. My Kuwaiti friends would do the bargaining for me, especially as they could talk in Persian with some of the dealers from Iran. I just loved this fabric and wanted to make a beautiful gown with it from the very start! I was inspired by the feminine and gorgeous sari worn in India. It was definitely a design challenge-it was a lot of work with pleats, asymmetrical design, hand sewing the jacquard embroidery on and so forth. But I'm very pleased and proud of the final result! Thanks Professor Signe Jacobsen for sharing your techniques!
